During Image Skincare Peels, a chemical exfoliant solution is applied to the skin to help exfoliate the top layers of the skin. The new, rejuvenated skin is smoother. With a light or medium peel, you may need to undergo the procedure more than once to get the desired results. Chemical peels are used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, discoloured skin and acne — usually on the face. They can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures for the best result. What to expect: Your esthetician will prep the skin, then use a brush, cotton ball, gauze or sponge to apply the peel solution, typically containing glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid. The treated skin may begin to whiten. You might feel mild stinging and heat while the peel is on your skin. Your esthetician will apply a neutralizing solution or wash to remove the peel from the treated skin and explain the post treatment instructions. You will also receive a post treatment kit with products to use while your skin is healing.
